Despite having a bye week and preparing for a Divisional Round playoff game against an unnamed opponent, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is continuing to grow his influence in the city.
According to the National Women’s Soccer League franchise in Kansas City, the Kansas City Current, Mahomes will join Chris and Angie Long, as well as his wife Brittany, on the club’s ownership group.
« I am thankful for the chance to join my wife as part of the Kansas City Current’s ownership team, » Mahomes said in a release issued by the Current on Tuesday morning. « Brittany and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization. I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history. »
Mahomes has become a part of Kansas City identity
With the addition of his co-ownership in the Current to his already impressive portfolio, which also includes Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City and the Kansas City Royals on the Major League Baseball side of things, Mahomes now has an ownership interest in three professional sports teams in Kansas City. Mahomes has had a significant impact on the region’s recent introduction of the renowned restaurant brand Whataburger.
He has a « undeniable » enthusiasm for the Current, according to Brittany, who calls him a « big supporter behind-the-scenes. » The Longs are likewise thrilled to have him on board.
