Nottingham Forest are among the clubs considering a late attempt to snatch Weston McKennie away from Leeds United, who remain in advanced talks to sign the midfielder from Juventus.
Forest, who sit 13th in the Premier League table, are interested in signing the 24-year-old midfielder before Tuesday’s deadline.
The Athletic reported earlier on Saturday that Leeds remain locked in talks with Juventus as they try to complete their third major January signing before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
But Leeds, who also want to sign McKennie on loan with an option to buy, face late competition from Forest and others as interest in the USMNT player grows.
Juventus are keen to recoup money immediately for McKennie, who they signed from Schalke in 2020.
Leeds decided to move for McKennie following conversations with head coach Jesse Marsch.
He would be the third USMNT squad member to move to Elland Road in the past year after Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson.
But Forest also hope to recruit the midfielder following the arrivals of Danilo and Chris Wood.
Forest are also in advanced talks with Paris Saint-Germain over signing the veteran goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
Navas, the Costa Rica international and former Real Madrid stopper, has fallen down the pecking order in Paris and is open to a move, in search of regular first-team football.
Forest want to sign a goalkeeper because their number one, Dean Henderson, has suffered a thigh injury which will rule him out of a number of important games.
