Inter Miami began its highly-anticipated 2024 MLS regular season with a home win against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night.
Robert Taylor and Diego Gomez scored the two goals, as Luis Suarez made his official club debut and Lionel Messi shined like he always does.

Inter Miami started the first half in full control, and that lasted for the entirety of the 45 minutes. Real Salt Lake came out with a very defensive gameplan and were sloppy in possession.

That led to a lot of time on the ball for Miami, which culiminated in the first goal of the game. Taylor took advantage of a Messi assist, although RSL goalkeeper Zac MacMath should have done better.
Messi was on fire for the whole game, and gave fans a unique play that almost ended in what would have been one of the best goals of the year.
The second half was a different affair, with Miami dealing with heavy legs and Salt Lake pushing for an equalizer with a more offensive approach. But late in the game, Diego Gomez put the game out of reach after combining with Messi and Suarez.
Miami’s next game comes on Sunday when they travel west to face the LA Galaxy.
