Valencia striker Rafa Mir arrested after sexual assault allegation

Valencia striker Rafa Mir has been arrested by Spanish police on suspicion of sexual assault.

The 27-year-old, previously of Wolverhampton Wanderers, was taken into custody on Monday evening after an allegation was made against him and another unidentified person.

Guardia Civil confirmed on Tuesday that “two people have been arrested for an alleged crime of sexual assault, one of them is the Valencia player Rafael Mir”.

Valencia said in a club statement: “In relation to the press reports that have appeared regarding the arrest of Valencia CF player Rafa Mir , the club is aware of said arrest and, in the absence of details about it, for the moment it can only state that it will cooperate in everything that justice may require.”

The Spain youth international began his career with Valencia before signing for Wolves in 2018.

He made just four appearances for the Premier League side during a three-year stay in England that included three separate loan moves to Las Palmas, Nottingham Forest and SD Huesca.

Mir re-joined his boyhood club earlier this summer on a season-long loan from La Liga rivals Sevilla, where he has scored 24 goals in 105 appearances in all competitions.

He represented his nation at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, scoring three times in six games as Spain lost the gold medal match to Brazil.
