Barcelona winger and Spain international Lamine Yamal, 16, has successfully passed his school exams.

The teenager received news of his results in Germany, where he is representing Spain at the European Championship.

Yamal — who scored seven goals in 50 appearances for Barcelona this season — started in Spain’s victories over Croatia and Italy, before being used as a second half substitute for the final group stage win over Albania.

The teenager passed his fourth ESO exams this week, a Spanish educational equivalent to GCSE exams in the United Kingdom or the United States high school diploma.

“I just came out from the training session and I’ve been told it all went well,” Yamal told Spanish radio Onda Cero on Thursday night. “I passed the exams and I have the ESO title now.

“The last grades I’ve seen? If I’m honest, I saw them on my phone and it said I had passed so I just closed the app, called my mum and told her.”

Yamal has been studying during the tournament and previously explained how a tutor was helping him with his education alongside his presence at a major football tournament.

“I go to class and every day they give me different homework,” Yamal said. “Sometimes they give me more to do at home, but I do it every day.

“If they see that we’re in the quarter-finals or the last 16, they don’t give me much trouble, but on my days off, when my tutor knows that I’m not doing anything, he does tell me to do this or that assignment.”

Spain — the only team with a 100 per cent winning record at Euro 2024 so far — play Georgia in the round-of-16 stage on Sunday at 8pm BST.
