Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos has suffered an ankle ligament injury that is expected to sideline him for around six weeks.
The 28-year-old sustained the injury in Madrid’s two-goal victory over Real Betis on Sunday and picked up the injury at the start of the second half.
Madrid confirmed the diagnosis of the midfielder on Monday following scans with Ceballos not expected to return to action until late October.
Ceballos, who was substituted off in the 65th minute of the match, was making his first start of the season having come on as a late substitute in the league victory at home to Real Valladolid and the UEFA Super Cup triumph against Atalanta.
The midfielder made just five league starts last season for Madrid and was linked with a move back to Betis this summer, but no move came to fruition.
Madrid’s two-goal victory moves them up to eight points from the first four matches in La Liga.
