Real Madrid are set to activate Fran Garcia’s €10million (£8.8m) buy option.
Sources close to Garcia and Real have confirmed that the move is close, with the 23-year-old left-back likely to remain on loan at Rayo Vallecano until the end of the season.
Real, however, will only pay €5million for Garcia as they hold a 50 per cent sell-on clause on the player, who joined Rayo from the club’s academy in the summer of 2021, having previously spent a season on loan at the Estadio de Vallecas.
Real head coach Carlo Ancelotti wants Garcia but the final decision on the transfer was not made by the Italian, with the club’s board having the final say. Rayo, meanwhile, have told The Athletic they have not yet been informed of Garcia’s clause being activated.
Garcia has also attracted interest from Bayer Leverkusen after impressing for his current side.
Ancelotti admitted Real were looking at bringing Garcia back on Wednesday, commenting: “The squad has been finalised until June. He’s a player who came through the youth academy and we’re assessing him and we’ll take decisions on that at the end of the season.”
But Real might now pull forward a move for the defender, who never made a senior appearance for the club before moving.
Garcia has played 52 times in La Liga for Rayo, scoring once. He has also represented Spain at Under-21 level.
