Jude Bellingham has been suspended for two games following his red card against Valencia.
Bellingham, 20, was sent off following a controversial full-time whistle by referee Jesus Gil Manzano, bringing the game at the Mestalla to a close with the score 2-2.
The signal for full-time came with Madrid still on the attack following a corner in added time, with the whistle blown just as Bellingham headed in from Brahim Diaz’s cross.
It then became clear that Bellingham’s ‘goal’ had come after the whistle and the Englishman, along with many of his Madrid team-mates, argued against the decision. Gil Manzano then showed Bellingham a straight red card for his protestation.
The official referee’s match report, published online an hour after the game, said: “In minute 999 (sic), the player (5) Bellingham, Jude Victor William, was sent off for the following motive: After the end of the game and while still on the pitch, he came running over to me in an aggressive way shouting, repeatedly: ‘It’s a f*****g goal’.”
Bellingham will now miss La Liga matches against Celta Vigo and Osasuna.
Madrid had been two goals down in the game, with Hugo Duro and Roman Yaremchuk scoring within three minutes of each other in the first half.
Vinicius Junior then pulled one back for the away side in first-half added time, before equalising midway through the second period.
This was Madrid’s first back at the Mestalla after last season May’s encounter which saw Vinicius Jr subjected to racist abuse before and during the game.
La Liga is investigating after a video of a child allegedly calling Vinicius Jr a monkey surfaced on social media following Saturday’s match.
