Dani Olmo is likely to miss Barcelona’s game against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday evening despite the club’s efforts to register him in time.

The 26-year-old rejoined his boyhood club in a €60million move (£50.8m) from RB Leipzig on August 9, but has not made an appearance in a Barcelona shirt since then.

Barcelona are struggling to officially register Olmo due to ongoing financial constraints.

La Liga rules on salary limits mean the club are unable to add Olmo to their playing squad.

He was included in Barcelona’s matchday squad for Saturday’s 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao but forced to watch the game from the stands alongside injured midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The club have offloaded Ilkay Gundogan, Vitor Roque, Mika Faye and Clement Lenglet in recent weeks in a bid to reduce their wage bill but they are yet to comply with La Liga regulations.

Barcelona have until the end of the transfer window to resolve the situation or Olmo will be unable to play for the club until January, when the winter transfer window opens.

Speaking on Monday, head coach Hansi Flick said he was “hopeful” that Olmo could make his debut for the club against Rayo Vallecano.

He said: “I am always hopeful. I also hoped for it for the last game. It would be brilliant to have him to face Rayo Vallecano.

“Those are things that the player and the squad can’t control. We speak about it, we know it’s something difficult here in Barcelona. I trust the club and hope he can be registered by tomorrow.

“Any player who can’t play will be unhappy, that’s normal. But he knows why that’s the case here, and if he is available he’ll be 100 per cent ready.”

Barcelona have begun the new La Liga campaign with six points from their opening two games.

After Rayo Vallecano, they play back-to-back away games against Girona and Villarreal.
