Barcelona agree deal in principle to sign Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig

Barcelona have reached an agreement in principle with RB Leipzig to sign Dani Olmo.

The final details of the deal are still to be finalised but both parties are confident that it will be completed this week.

Olmo has three years remaining on his current contract, which runs until 2027, but is ready for the next stage in his career having spent four-and-a-half years in Germany.

Barcelona sporting director Deco — who watched Olmo impress for Spain against Georgia at Euro 2024 — and new head coach Hansi Flick have made his signing a key priority on account of his versatility.

His performances have not only impressed at the club level but also on the international stage, where he has earned 39 caps for Spain and was an integral part of their European Championship triumph.

He scored against the hosts Germany in the quarter-finals before netting the winner against France in the semi-finals.

Those Euro 2024 exploits saw him garner interest from Bayern Munich, as well as several Premier League clubs.

Olmo joined Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2020 and has since made 148 appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals and providing 34 assists.

He joined Barcelona’s academy from city rivals Espanyol as a child before progressing through the ranks at La Masia.

He left Barcelona in 2014 and joined Dinamo Zagreb where he made his professional debut, scoring 34 goals in 124 appearances for the Croatian club before moving to Leipzig in 2020.
