Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Spain international defender Robin Le Normand from Real Sociedad.

Sociedad say the fee will be in the region of €34.5million with the 27-year-old set to sign a long-term contract.

A statement from Atletico said: “Atletico de Madrid and Real Sociedad have reached an agreement for the transfer of Robin Le Normand, which will be formalised in the next few days, when the player returns from the holidays he is enjoying after winning the EURO 2024 with Spain on 14 July.”

Le Normand starred in Spain’s Euro 2024 success this summer, playing six of the team’s seven matches in the tournament — missing the semi final victory over France through suspension.

He obtained Spanish nationality in 2023 having joined Real Sociedad in 2016 from French club Brest, for whom he made one first-team appearance.

The central defender played 221 matches for Real Sociedad’s first team, helping the club win the Copa del Rey trophy in the 2019-20 season and reach the round of 16 in the Champions League in the 2023-24 campaign.

Central defenders Caglar Soyuncu, Stefan Savic and Gabriel Paulista have all left Atletico this summer, while striker Alvaro Morata has joined AC Milan and midfielder Saul Niguez has moved to Sevilla on a season-long loan deal.
