Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Glasgow Rangers were minutes away from a shutout draw in Germany in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals, only for Angelino to give RB Leipzig a narrow lead.
The Scottish side allowed the home team to dominate possession but stood firm and had opportunities of their own to break forward and threaten.
Conor Goldson and Ryan Kent both saw attempts go wide as set pieces and counter-attacks produced opportunities.
However, the German side had the better chances with Allan McGregor forced into several fine saves throughout the night, particularly from Tyler Adams.
It was not enough to take a draw back to Scotland for Rangers, though, as a corner was cleared to Angelino in the 85th minute.
The Spanish full-back smashed a volley into the bottom corner of McGregor‘s net and sparked wild celebrations at a packed Red Bull Arena.
It means that the Scottish side have it all to do back at Ibrox next week as they seek to secure a first European final since 2008.
