Mohamed Salah returns to Liverpool squad for Sparta Prague clash

Mohamed Salah has returned to the Liverpool matchday squad for the Europa League visit to Sparta Prague.

Salah, 31, took part in the full training session for Liverpool at Kirkby on Wednesday prior to Jurgen Klopp’s squad flying out to the Czech capital.

Salah sustained a hamstring injury while playing for Egypt against Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

The forward returned to Liverpool action in last month’s 4-1 Premier League victory at Brentford, in which he scored and provided an assist, but has sat out the subsequent four matches through fatigue after aggravating the muscle injury.

The Egyptian was involved in Liverpool’s training session on Wednesday ahead of their trip to Sparta Prague in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie.

Speaking of Salah’s potential return to action last month, Liverpool boss Klopp said: “It is day by day as well with Mo. It’s a similar area where he feels it (fatigue) a little bit. We have to see how it develops. It’s nothing crazy, but we have to see.”

Salah has scored 19 goals in 28 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions so far this season.

Liverpool have asked the Egyptian FA not to select Salah for their upcoming March friendly against New Zealand as they believe the 31-year-old would benefit from a period of rest.

However, Egyptian officials have made it clear that if Salah plays for Liverpool before the international break then they will regard him as available to represent his country.

Meanwhile, young striker Jayden Danns wasn’t involved in Wednesday’s training session after being concussed in a heavy collision with Nottingham Forest keeper Matz Sels on Saturday.

After Thursday’s match in Prague, Liverpool will return to action on Sunday when they host Manchester City in the Premier League.
