Arteta’s post-match thoughts
Mikel Arteta spoke to BT Sport after the match: « We had really good moments where we dominated against a really good side. We lacked that final pass or shot but we’re happy to win the game and we are qualified which is the first step.
« The difference between finishing first and second is big and we want to get the job done.
« In Europe you have to control the opponent. They are very talented, used to winning and the amount of goals they have scored is incredible – we were really mature. »
On Granit Xhaka’s goal: « It was a great goal with the right foot, a half-volley. He is getting in these positions every game that’s why he is scoring the goals. »
On Bukayo Saka, who needed treatment but then came back on: « I think he will be OK. »

From villain to hero for Xhaka
Pundits on both sides of the pond are commenting on how remarkable Xhaka’s redemption at Arsenal has been.
Martin Keown said on BT Sport: « Granit Xhaka is now becoming an Arsenal fan favourite and who could’ve imagined that?
« We know he has had a difficult time at the club but that’s in the past and he’s doing well. He is really important in the side for Arsenal’s success. If they are successful and win a trophy, he will get another contract. »
Aaron West said on Paramount+: « Incredible turnaround. He went from being booed off the pitch by his own fans, giving them hand signals we can’t show on camera, to completely turning it around. »
