Aston Villa seemed more than happy to rely on their home form. They trusted their defence throughout the first leg and hardly had a sniff of the Ajax goal with just four shots in the 90 minutes.
And Ajax weren’t much better as they also only had four shots. Although, one of those probably should’ve ended up in the back of the net as Brian Brobbey fired a left-footed shot — worth 0.45 xG — wide in the first half.
Konsa’s red card reduced to Villa to 10 men in the 83rd minute but the hosts soon made it 10 vs 10 as Gooijer faced the same fate three minutes later. A really poor first leg, but it has set up an exciting second leg.
