Sheffield United owner Prince Abdullah ‘accepts offer to sell club’ with takeover potentially being completed ‘within weeks’ as proposal sent to EFL

Prince Abdullah has reportedly accepted an offer to sell Sheffield United, with the deal set to go to the EFL.

The new bidder, who remains nameless, is understood to be willing to spend a ‘substantial’ amount in order to purchase the Championship club.

According to Yorkshire Live, the Blades could have new owners ‘within weeks’.

The takeover bid comes shortly after the failing proposal from American businessman Henry Mauriss earlier this year.

Mauriss had an offer accepted for the club and saw his offer go to the EFL, however it was at this stage that the deal collapsed as he was unable to satisfy the EFL of his business plan to purchase the Championship outfit.

Any new owner will face the challenge of getting Sheffield United back into the Premier League.

The Blades missed out promotion last term after finishing fifth in the table and being beaten by Nottingham Forest in the play-off semi-finals.

This term, however, things are looking far more positive.

With Paul Heckingbottom in charge, the south Yorkshire side sit second in the Championship, five points clear of third-place Blackburn.
