Barcelona booked their place in the last 16 against Porto last time out after beating the Portuguese side by two goals to one, where the Catalan side started off on the wrong end of a Pepe goal that put the Portuguese side ahead.

The two Joaos, Cancelo and Felix then went one better and turned the scoreline around to ensure Barcelona‘s place in the last 16.

Elsewhere, Atletico beat Feyenoord 3-1 with the Rojiblancos players having a great game and booking their place in the round of 16.

Real Madrid achieved full points (18 out of 18). They closed the group stage with a win against Union Berlin (2-3) thanks to Joselu‘s brace and Dani Ceballos‘ goal.

Real Sociedad got the draw they needed at the San Siro to qualify for the draw as top seeds. They will be able to play the second leg of the last 16 at Anoeta.

Sevilla are out of the Champions League and Europa League after losing to Lens.

When is the Champions League round of 16 draw?

Dates of the Champions League round of 16 matches

It should also be noted that the two matches corresponding to the round of 16 resulting from the draw will be played on 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2024 for the first leg, while the second leg will be played on 5, 6, 12 and 13 March.

Champions League round of 16 pots

  • Pot 1: Bayern, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Manchester City, Barcelona
  • Pot 2: Copenhagen, PSV, Napoli, Inter, RB Leipzig

The rest of the teams who will qualify and therefore complete these two pots remain to be decided today.

Format and rules

As in the group draw, teams from the same country cannot share a group, nor can they play against each other. Another condition is that teams that have already shared a group in the previous round cannot be paired together.

The last condition is that the teams in pot one are matched against the teams in pot two, making it impossible for a team from pool one to be paired with a team from the same pool and vice versa with a team from pool two.

Match conditions

Teams from the same country cannot play their knockout matches on the same day, as they cannot coincide on the same date due to TV rights, e.g. on the day Bayern Munich play, RB Leipzig cannot play.
