Joao Cancelo has completed his loan move to Bayern Munich from Manchester City.
Cancelo’s loan deal includes a buy option of €70million (£61.6m, $76.3m), with the German champions long-term admirers of the 28-year-old.
The Athletic broke the news yesterday of Bayern’s proposed deal for Cancelo and the Portuguese later arrived in Munich ahead of his medical.
Cancelo will wear the no 22 shirt at his new club.
The full-back had fallen out of the first team under Pep Guardiola, failing to start any of their last three games in all competitions.
Academy graduate Rico Lewis, as well as Nathan Ake, John Stones and Kyle Walker, have all been preferred in the full-back slots in recent weeks. Since the World Cup break, Cancelo has only started two of City’s nine matches in all competitions.
Cancelo joins a Bayern team that have faltered in the Bundesliga in recent weeks. Julian Nagelsmann’s side still lead the league but there are only three points between themselves and fifth-placed Freiburg.
Bayern have drawn their last three games since domestic football returned and face a trip to Mainz in the DFB Pokal tomorrow.
