Emi Martinez, Argentina‘s World Cup hero, received the award for the best goalkeeper of the tournament after Argentina defeated France on penalties to become world champions and now he could be set for a big transfer.
After impressive at the World Cup, he could leave Aston Villa and join Bayern Munich.
A replacement for the injured Manuel Neuer
According to The Sun, the goalkeeper could be Bayern Munich‘s target to replace Manuel Neuer, after the German broke his leg skiing.
Martinez‘s performances on the pitch have attracted the interest of several European teams and his days at Villa Park could be numbered.
« There are few teams today that can afford a goalkeeper like him, » said his agent, Gustavo Goni, in an interview with Tuttomercato.

However, negotiations wouldn’t be straightforward, as Martinez is one of the main stars at Aston Villa, where he is under contract until mid-2027.
The Birmingham side paid just over 17 million euros to Arsenal to sign him in September 2020.
Bayern are also reportedly considering other options such as goalkeeper Keylor Navas and Morocco goalkeeper Bono if they can’t land Martinez.
A reunion with Mbappe and Messi
If Martinez does join Bayern Munich, he would be thrown in to one of the best ties of the 2022/23 Champions League last 16.
That’s because the German side have been drawn against Paris Saint-Germain, so the goalkeeper would go up against his Albiceleste colleague and friend Lionel Messi.
It would also give Kylian Mbappe a chance for revenge, after Martinez carried around a doll with Mbappe‘s face on it during Argentina‘s World Cup celebrations in Buenos Aires.
It would certainly be a tasty tie, once the Champions League gets back up and running in February.
