Newcastle United have rejected a €15million (£12.8m) offer from Bayern Munich for Kieran Trippier.
The Athletic previously reported that Bayern were considering a move for Trippier in the January transfer window.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are keen to recruit a new right-back this month and the England international is among several players being considered for the position.
Nordi Mukiele, who had a four-year stint with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga before moving to Paris Saint-Germain, is also on Bayern’s shortlist. However, negotiations have been challenging.
Newcastle have been adamant that Trippier won’t be sold this month but Bayern are still interested, with the deadline less than a fortnight away.
The 33-year-old was the inaugural signing of the Saudi Arabia Pubic Investment Fund (PIF) era at Newcastle in January 2022, securing a £12million move from Atletico Madrid. Although he is not seen as a permanent solution to Bayern’s right-back issues, he is highly regarded for his professionalism and leadership.
With Noussair Mazraoui sidelined due to a hamstring injury and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) commitments with Morocco, Bayern have often been left short in the right-back position, leading to midfielder Konrad Laimer frequently filling in.
Since his arrival from Atletico, Trippier has played a pivotal role for Eddie Howe’s side, scoring three goals and providing 18 assists in 81 appearances.
