Benjamin Sesko set to sign new RB Leipzig contract amid Premier League transfer interest

Benjamin Sesko is set to sign a new and improved contract with RB Leipzig amid significant transfer interest in the 21-year-old.

Leipzig are expected to announce Sesko’s new deal on Wednesday.

Sesko has attracted interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United and The Athletic reported earlier on Tuesday that those clubs wanted clarity over the striker’s situation before the European Championship begins on Friday.

Arsenal had appeared the frontrunner for Sesko’s signature this summer but the player remaining at Leipzig was always a distinct possibility and the biggest threat to thwarting the north London side’s hopes.

Sesko’s previous contract contained a release clause in the region of €65million (£55.3m, $70.8m), meaning his performances at the Euros were unlikely to significantly impact his potential sale fee. He is in line to represent Slovenia at the tournament, with his side facing Denmark, England and Serbia in Group C.

Leipzig signed Sesko from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2022, with the Slovenian joining the German side the following year.

Last season, he scored 14 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances despite only starting 17 of those games. Sesko ended the season in strong form, scoring in each of Leipzig’s final seven league matches
