Bayer Leverkusen booked their place in the DFB-Pokal final with a comfortable victory over Fortuna Dusseldorf in Wednesday’s semi-final.

Goals from Jeremie Frimpong, Amine Adli and two from Florian Wirtz ensured Xabi Alonso’s Bundesliga leaders cruised into May’s final in Berlin.

They will meet Kaiserslautern after the Bundesliga 2 side ended third-tier Saarbrucken’s fairytale run to the last four on Tuesday.

The 4-0 win continues Leverkusen’s unbeaten season and keeps them in the hunt for three pieces of silverware.

They lead the Bundesliga by 13 points from reigning champions Bayern Munich with seven games remaining and are also into the last eight of the Europa League where they will face Premier League West Ham United over two legs later this month.

Alonso last month committed his immediate future to the club despite interest from both Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen return to action in the Bundesliga away at Union Berlin on Saturday afternoon.
