Manchester United fans may be interested to hear that there seems to be a concrete possibility of Leon Goretzka leaving Bayern Munich this summer.
That’s according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, who also named Dayot Upamecano as a Bayern player whose future could be up in the air as he spoke exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column.
Goretzka is seemingly on Man Utd’s radar, according to what Christian Falk recently told CaughtOffside, so some Red Devils supporters will no doubt be excited to learn that the Germany international looks like a realistic name to watch out for on the market in the next transfer window.
United would do well to strengthen their midfield after a difficult season at Old Trafford, with neither Casemiro nor Sofyan Amrabat looking like being good enough long-term options for the club in that area of the pitch.
Goretzka has had a fine career at Bayern and would surely be an upgrade for MUFC if possible, so it will be interesting to see how this story develops, with Bayern’s next manager, in all probability Ralf Rangnick, also likely to be key to any decision on Goretzka and Upamecano.
Goretzka and Upamecano transfer latest from Romano
“Everything is almost ready for Ralf Rangnick to replace Thomas Tuchel as Bayern Munich manager for next season. It’s just about the final details now, they are discussing these details, with Bayern also publicly ruling out the possibility of a U-turn and keeping Tuchel as their manager,” Romano said.
“Rangnick was always one of the names on Bayern’s list. The dream target was Xabi Alonso, then Julian Nagelsmann was also someone they were interested in, but Rangnick was always there as well, and now it’s really close.
“It’s a possibility for Leon Goretzka to leave Bayern in the summer, but it will depend on the manager. We have to wait. Kimmich, Goretzka, Sane… many players are waiting to talk to the future coach before deciding their future, also Bayern are waiting to hear from their new manager to decide on some players.
“Dayot Upamecano is another possibility to leave Bayern in case they receive a proposal, but so far there are no negotiations, no talks, no contacts. I can’t mention any specific clubs now as it’s very quiet, but we will see in the summer.”
