Erik ten Hag has been handed a huge boost with Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez returning to training ahead of Sunday’s game with Arsenal.

It’s been a torrid campaign for United as they find themselves eighth, and out of the European qualification places following Monday’s 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Dutchman will be delighted to see Martinez back in training given the defensive injury crisis, which has seen the Red Devils have to play Casemiro at centre back.

Martinez and Rashford return to training ahead of Arsenal game

Injuries have limited the Argentine defender to just 11 appearances for United this season but he is reportedly targeting a return for the FA Cup final.

Ten Hag will no doubt be hoping that one of Raphael Varane or Harry Maguire can return in time time to partner Martinez against Manchester City.

Rashford and Martinez have returned to United training.

However, before attention can be turned to the FA Cup United have three games left starting with Arsenal’s visit to Old Trafford before facing Newcastle and Brighton.

Rashford is back in contention having not played since going off in the FA Cup semi final against Coventry.

The England international is having a difficult season and has scored just seven Premier League goals in 31 appearances.

The 26-year-old has been criticised for his demeanour on the pitch at times this campaign, as well as his behaviour off it.

United head into this game in poor form with just one win from their last seven league games, and are staring down the barrel of not playing in Europe next season.

Ten Hag’s side desperately need the points if they are going to overhaul Newcastle and Chelsea for a top six finish but face a difficult task against the title chasing Gunners who have only lost one league game in 2024.
