Arsenal have Ajax wonderkid defender Jorrel Hato high on their list of transfer targets, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that although Hato recently signed a new Ajax contract, the 18-year-old remained firmly in Arsenal’s plans ahead of this summer.
Capable of playing centre-back or left-back, Hato looks an outstanding young talent who could have a big future in the game, and it seems the Gunners are keen to ensure they win the race for his signature.
It remains to be seen if Ajax will be willing to play ball, but we know from history that the Dutch giants have often sold their star players to bigger clubs elsewhere in Europe when they’ve come calling.
Hato transfer: Will Arsenal snap up the Ajax wonderkid?
Discussing the latest on Hato’s future and interest from Arsenal, Romano said: “As previously reported, Jorrel Hato could be a name to watch for Arsenal.
“Ajax want to keep him, that’s why they recently extended his contract until June 2028. But Arsenal remain absolutely keen and interested. He’s high on club’s list so let’s see after title race if they decide to try again for the 18-year-old, who can play centre-back or left-back.”
Arsenal could surely do with bringing in Hato as another option at left-back, with Oleksandr Zinchenko falling out of favour this season, while Mikel Arteta has rotated the likes of Jakub Kiwior and Takehiro Tomiyasu in that role.
Hato could well be an upgrade on those options, though it would also be very useful having the extra depth at centre-back, as William Saliba may need a rest at some point after playing every single minute of this Premier League campaign.
AFC will want to have depth in that area so they’re not at risk of the likes of Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes burning themselves out and picking up injuries next season.
