Both Chelsea and Barcelona have seen better days in their recent past.
It wasn’t that long ago when the Blues and the Catalans were not only champions of their respective leagues, but also Kings of Europe.
How the mighty have fallen.
From Barca’s point of view, it’s a long, hard road back after the tenure of president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, with his decisions causing no end of financial problems for the club.
Chelsea, seemingly, have fallen off a cliff since Roman Abramovich sold the club to Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital.
A haphazard way of approaching each transfer market since the American took over has made it almost impossible for any manager to get the best out of the first-team, with Mauricio Pochettino the latest to try and do so.
One player that Barcelona could only dream about having in their first XI at present is Chelsea’s Argentinian midfielder, Enzo Fernandez.
The player cost the West Londoners a cool £106.8m per The Guardian (subscription required), a figure that would be well beyond the Catalans at this point.
However, as Sport are reporting, Fernandez appears to be seduced by the idea of playing for the Spanish giants, and, via his agent, he has apparently offered himself to the club.
It seems almost impossible that a deal could be constructed to suit all parties at this stage, but as we’ve seen many times before, you never say never in football.
