Reason why Ruben Amorim wears sash on his arm in every Sporting game and what message reads

Ruben Amorim wears a sash on his arm in every Sporting CP game in Portugal and here’s why.

Amorim is in advanced talks with Manchester United over the club’s managerial position following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag on Monday.

Ten Hag was relieved of his duties at Old Trafford, having led the Red Devils to four defeats in the Premier League this season, including last weekend’s 2-1 loss at West Ham United.

The 39-year-old, who attracted interest from Liverpool and West Ham last summer, is at the top of Man United’s list to replace Ten Hag.

Amorim wants to be Man United’s next manager and negotiations are ongoing over his coaching staff, the timing of his appointment and his release clause with Sporting.

He’s set to take charge of Sporting against Nacional in the Portuguese league cup on Tuesday in what could potentially be in his last game for the club.

The young manager will be on the touchline wearing a sash, which he wears in every Sporting match in Portugal.

The sash isn’t a personal item but actually a regulatory obligation.

The Portuguese football federation mandates that all individuals on the bench, except for players, must wear an armband indicating their specific role.

The sash has the word ‘treinador’ printed on it, which means coach in Portuguese.

So, that means Amorim won’t be wearing a sash on the touchline in England if he does indeed get the Man United job.

Amorim was appointed Sporting manager back in March 2020 after impressing at Braga.

He has guided his current side to two Primeira Liga titles during his reign at the Lisbon-based outfit.

But it appears his time in Portugal is coming to an end ahead of an appointment at Man United.

He could be appointed by this weekend’s Premier League fixture against Chelsea.
