Fulham are close to completing the signing of Burnley midfielder Sander Berge.

The west London club have agreed to pay a fee worth £20million plus £5m in potential add-ons.

The 26-year-old and his agent Morten Wivestad are travelling to London for a medical on Tuesday before finalising his move to Craven Cottage. Personal terms with the player are already in place.

He is set to become Fulham’s fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Ryan Sessegnon, Jorge Cuenca and Emile Smith Rowe.

Berge would bolster Marco Silva’s midfield options following the expiration of Willian’s contract and João Palhinha’s move to Bayern Munich.

The Norwegian, who has won 46 caps for his country, had previously been identified as a potential option for Manchester United, who remain in the market for a defensive midfielder.

The move means Fulham are moving on from Scott McTominay after seeing bids turned down by United.

Berge played no part in either of Burnley’s opening two games of the Championship campaign under new head coach Scott Parker, who replaced Vincent Kompany earlier this summer.

He made 37 appearances last term as Burnley were relegated from the Premier League.

He joined the Turf Moor club from Sheffield United last summer, signing a four-year contract at the club ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Berge came through the youth ranks at Norwegian lower league side Asker and earned a move to Valerenga in the country’s top flight in 2015 before he switched to Genk in 2017.

Fulham began the new Premier League campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Manchester United.

They are next in action at home to newly-promoted Leicester City on Saturday.
