Sergio Conceicao has left his position as Porto head coach — just nine days after winning the Portuguese Cup.
The 49-year-old former winger, who enjoyed two spells at Porto as a player, spent seven seasons as the club’s head coach with last month’s Portuguese Cup final victory over Sporting Lisbon his 11th trophy in charge.
Conceicao oversaw a disappointing season; Porto were edged out by Arsenal on penalties in the round-of-16 stage in the Champions League and the club finished third in the Portuguese top-flight, 18 points behind league champions Sporting, but their Portuguese Cup success saw the campaign end on a high note.

Conceicao agreed to sign a new contract through to 2028 at Porto in April — an announcement which came ahead of the club’s presidential elections, in which Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, who spent 42 years in the position, was voted out for former head coach, Andre Villas-Boas.
However, a statement from Porto clarified that this new agreement would only become active on July 1, with the club mutually agreeing with Conceicao for his existing contract to expire at June 30 and the new deal not to be activated.
Across his seven seasons in charge, Conceicao won three league titles, four Portuguese Cups, one Portuguese League Cup and three Portuguese Super Cups.
Coinceicao’s managerial career also included stints at Olhanense, Academica, Braga and Vitoria Guimaraes, and six months in charge of French club Nantes before moving to Porto.
