England captain Harry Kane has left Germany to receive treatment on a back injury.

Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel explained on Friday that Kane was seeing his personal doctor to receive treatment for the issue and will miss the final Bundesliga game of the season against Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Bayern later confirmed to The Athletic that Kane has already left Germany.

The injury comes ahead of Gareth Southgate announcing his preliminary England squad for this summer’s European Championship in Germany on Tuesday.

“Harry is being treated by his personal doctor and he is not here anymore,” Tuchel said. “He won’t be with us (for the game against Hoffenheim). In Madrid it was already touch and go (whether he’d play).”

The injury forced the 30-year-old striker off in the second half of Bayern’s Champions League semi-final defeat to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu before he sat out the victory over Wolfsburg on Sunday.

According to Tuchel, Kane – the most expensive player in the history of the Bundesliga – was a touch-and-go selection for the Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid on May 9.

He was substituted in the 85th minute of that game, which Bayern lost 2-1, and has not played since. He was at the Allianz Arena on Sunday and took part in the end of season ceremony following the 2-0 win over Wolfsburg.

England’s preliminary squad is announced on Tuesday at 2pm (BST), before Southgate’s side play friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 3 in Newcastle and against Iceland on June 7 at Wembley.

Their 26-man squad for Euro 2024 will be confirmed following the Iceland friendly.

England begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on June 16.

Kane, England’s all-time top scorer with 62 goals in 89 appearances, has enjoyed an impressive individual debut season at Bayern following his summer move from Tottenham.

He has scored 44 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions, but finished the season without silverware after Bayern finished second in the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen, exited at the semi-final stage of the Champions League to Real Madrid and were beaten by third-tier Saarbrucken in the DFB-Pokal.
