Max Homa is as well-known for his major struggles as any top player. He didn’t get his first career major top-10 until last July’s Open Championship, and he’s never been better than 43rd at Augusta.

Today? He’s co-leader at the Masters.

He ended yesterday before the stoppage at 5-under, but more importantly he was one of the few in the field to not get crushed by the wind in the morning restart. He birdied 16 and 17 with perfect iron shots, bogeyed 18 and ended the round at 6-under.

Now four holes into round two, Homa looks as dialed as we’ve ever seen him at a major. He’s had birdie putts on all four holes and made two difficult ones to become co-leader at 7-under.

The problem with Homa is never about how he does in contention. He’s actually quite clutch. The issue is ejected on Thursday and Friday. This is a massive step forward for the No.11 player in the world.
