Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri is expected to travel to Spain today ahead of completing a proposed move to Granada on loan until the end of the season.

A deal to take Pellistri to the Spanish side took a significant step forward on Monday and is now in the process of being finalised.

Granada’s move for the 22-year-old is set to be a straight loan deal without an option to make the switch permanent in the summer, with United covering part of the player’s wages.

Uruguay international Pellistri has featured in 14 matches for Erik ten Hag’s side this season but has started just one Premier League match — the September defeat at home to Crystal Palace. He was an unused substitute in United’s 4-2 win over Newport County in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Pellistri, who arrived at Old Trafford from Penarol in 2020, has previously spent two separate stints on loan at Granada’s La Liga rivals Alaves, where he made 35 appearances across the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns, without scoring a goal.

Pellistri’s move to Granada coincides with full-back Alvaro Fernandez’s season-long loan spell at the Spanish club being cut short as he joined Benfica from United.

Granada are 19th in La Liga, with just two wins and 11 points from their 22 league matches this campaign.

Pellistri held talks with Granada manager Alexander Medina, a fellow Uruguayan, and the club’s sporting director Matteo Tognozzi, ahead of the move.

The Uruguayan had fallen behind Alejandro Garnacho and Antony in the pecking order at Old Trafford, while Amad has also recently returned from a long-term injury layoff.

The winger has established himself as a regular in Uruguay’s international squads, for whom he has been capped 18 times — including all three of the nation’s World Cup matches in 2022.
